The Espresso Martini

Next to whiskey based cocktails, one of my absolute favorite drinks to make and drink is the espresso martini. Now, over the last year or so, I've made plenty of espresso martinis, both good and bad. There were some that impressed me and others that were pretty disappointing in both flavor and presentation. My ideal espresso martini must check off two boxes. The first being a strong but pleasant coffee flavor. Without this, are you really drinking an espresso martini? The second is a nice foam layer on top. While this does a lot for the cocktail's presentation, giving a canvas for garnishes, I think it enhances the overall drinking experience and texture of the drink. For the first time in awhile, my espresso martini checked off both of these boxes and I told myself I'd wait until I'm satisfied before I wrote this post. So here we are, My Espresso Martini!

My Espresso Martini

2 oz Vodka (my go to is Purity 51)

1 oz Coffee Liquor (for this one I used Kahlua but I prefer Mr. Black)

1 Freshly Brewed Espresso Shot

2 Dashes of Chocolate Mole Bitters

2-3 Dashes of Fee Brother's Cocktail Foamer

Coco Powder or Espresso Beans for Garnish

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill. Double strain into a chilled coupe glass and sift cocoa powder atop of the foam.

I doubt this will be the last post about an espresso martini as I love to try different variations and it's a fun drink to order out (when the bar knows what they're doing). But for now, I'll leave you with a recommendation to try the espresso martini flight at the Starbucks Reserve. In my opinion, you have to order it from the bar. Outside or at a table just wasn't the same.
